Internet Videos - Is It Time?

Short answer - Absolutely!

If you have a business, you probably need video on your website. I know, that's a blanket statement coming from someone who advocates doing a market strategy to determine which avenue to spend your marketing/advertising dollars. However, with the right video company you can have a professional video on your website that will pay for itself in no time.

Of course, I always believe that your company needs to be well defined with a core message and a unique value position, but once you have that in place, the right video is compelling.

As I tell all my clients, nothing sells like the right picture. If you have a photograph on your site, I strongly urge you to make sure it's of professional quality. The same goes for video. I know I can set up my video camera and create a digital file to upload to my website. It might even look OK. But the professional look goes a long way in showing your potential customers how you care about the work that you do.

Edward Tufte, the premier graphic design guru of our time, talks about data density - the most amount of data in the smallest amount of space in the clearest possible presentation. Video handles that extremely well... too well, sometimes. The nuances of body language can help or hinder any presentation. With the right coaching, a great videographer will be able to guide you in your video presentation so that your message comes across.

Speaking of great videographers, I have worked with one such person. Catie Foertsch owns a video company in Westborough, Massachusetts, called Our Town Productions. She has extensive experience in the field on both sides of the camera. Many people who belong to the local chamber, the Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce, will recognize her as their regular videographer at most of their events. I highly recommend her.

I strongly urge you to look at professional video as an option for your website. A compelling video will help set you apart from your competition.

Paul - thanks for the shout-out. You're tapping into a huge discussion going on now in the video community: how good is good enough? The answer is that we're getting used to seeing video on websites and now, the quality of the video is making a statement about the quality of the company, the way a quality website is immediately differentiated from an amateur-ish website. The question for all business owners is - what do you want to say about your business? The answer is - that your company delivers services of the highest quality. If you post a video that looks like you got your neighbor to shoot it for you - what does that say about your company?
